Educational Seminars
Programs available for both the career and volunteer fire service:

  • Fireground Size-Up - This program is a comprehensive review of the factors necessary for an efficient, effective and safe operation. This program can be presented as a 3-hour lecture or an all day workbook seminar.

  • May-Day/Urgent Radio Guidelines and Procedures - NEW! - This is a three-hour program designed to establish protocol with your members with a MAY-DAY or URGENT radio transmission. Within this program we will discuss why firefighters get into trouble, why we don't transmit calls for help, the difference between a MAY-DAY and URGENT transmission, transmission parameters, how to call it, as well as provide you with a sample SOP/SOG with the procedure. ALL departments must have an established MAY-DAY and URGENT radio guideline and procedure. Does yours?

  • Team, Large Area Search - This program, which was designed by the instructor for the JCFD, covers the necessary steps for your department to implement an organized search for large area buildings. The program is presented as a 3-hour lecture/demonstration with an all-day practical if requested.

  • Development and Use of Fireground Tactical Worksheets - A three-hour lecture/demonstration will take the student through the design and use of a tactical worksheet. Students will be able to apply the sheets through a series of mock fireground scenarios utilizing their own department's resources.

  • Fireground Size-Up/Occupancy Specific - Each of the listed occupancy/buildings is presented as 3-hour lecture or an all-day interactive workbook seminar. Each class will cover size-up factors specific to the occupancy as well as suggested strategies for the first due engine, ladder and chief officer.
